“Where are you from?” “I’m from New Jersey1.” “No, that’s not what I meant.” “Oh, I’m from Trenton.” *awkward silence and mutual smiling*
Lady, we know exactly what you mean, but guess what? Despite our beards and kufis, we were born and raised in the good ol’ US of A. Our parents came from another country just like yours. We have no accent, and we don’t know any geography either.
We’ve lost count of how many times we’ve had that conversation. However, we have come to accept this fact: We are Muslims and North Americans. We identify with North American culture and find guidance in the Sunnah2. We know this harmony can be difficult and confusing at times. So we created this blog to pass on the knowledge given to us through an unbroken chain of scholars back to our beloved Prophet ﷺ.
We’ll be blogging about everyday issues that North American Muslims face and an approach guided by the Qur’an and Sunnah…all the while fending off both Muslim and non-Muslim trolls. We ask our Rabb3 for guidance and ease towards that which makes Him pleased. Amīn.
